The Bill introduces mandatory licensing of larger, higher-risk HMOs. It will also allow discretionary licensing if Local Housing Authorities (LHAs) wish to extend the licensing regime to other HMOs in certain circumstances.

In a press release put out by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister yesterday, the Housing Minister, Keith Hill, announced that the Government would be amending the Housing Bill currently before Parliament. There were two amendments, one to do with bringing empty property back into use, and the other to do with controlling the holding of tenants' deposit money. [more details] |
